Ambassador's Biography

Ambassador Elif Çomoğlu Ülgen

Ambassador Elif Çomoğlu Ülgen, a career diplomat, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993, after graduating from the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Ankara. She received her Masters Degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Bosphorus, Istanbul.

Ambassador Çomoğlu Ülgen  arrived in Pretoria to take up her new post on February 26, 2017.  She has not yet presented her credentials to H.E Jacob G. Zuma, the President of the Republic of South Africa. After submitting her credentials in South Africa, she will also be accredited as Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Kingdom of Swaziland, and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

2017 -             Ambassador (designate) of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of South Africa.

2017 – 2014    Deputy Director General for Research at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Ankara

2014 – 2012    Consul General of Turkey in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

2012 – 2009    First Counsellor at the Turkish Permanent Representation to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation), Brussels, Belgium

2009 – 2007    Head of Department for Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation at the MFA in Ankara

2007– 2003     Counsellor at the Turkish Permanent Representation to the European Union, Brussels, Belgium

2003– 2001     Political Adviser seconded to the Third Army Corps (NATO High Readiness Corps) in Istanbul, Turkey

2001– 2000     Second Secretary at MFA Branch Office in Istanbul

2000– 1997     Second Secretary at the Turkish Permanent Representation to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

1997 – 1995   Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.

1995 – 1993    Attaché at the Department of European Communities at the MFA in Ankara.

Ambassador Çomoğlu Ülgen is married to Mr.Sinan Ülgen, and is the mother of Ömer, Selim and Pamir.
