The parliamentary elections in Iraq has been finalized, despite some terrorist attacks and claims of irregularity throughout the country. We wish that the election results will bring the best to the brotherly people of Iraq who have been suffering from great pain and distress for many years.

It is important that those irregularity allegations be investigated by the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq for the establishment of legitimacy of the election results.

Attaching great importance to the preservation of political unity and territorial integrity of Iraq, Turkey believes that the formation of a government that would embrace all segments of the Iraqi people will be essential to successfully overcoming the formidable challenges ahead, such as fight against terrorism, re-construction and social re-conciliation. It will also have positive implications on the security and stability of our region.
